스쳐 지나간 어제를 기록하려고 합니다.

안녕하세요 :-) 그림그리는 '설학영'입니다.

 

저는 주로 크레파스, 우리가 흔히 '오일파스텔'이라고 부르곤 하는 재료로 작업을 하고 있습니다. 우리는 살면서 많은 것들과 마주칩니다. 어쩌면 그것은 사람, 또는 풍경이나 사물일지도 모르지요. 그것들을 마주하며 우리는 때때로 분명 이전에는 본적 없음에도 불구하고 익숙함을 느끼기도 하지만 때론 수십, 수백번을 봐왔음에도 불구하고 처음 본 듯한 이질감을 느끼기도 해요. 알고 계실지 모르지만,  ‘데자뷰’와 ‘자메뷰’가 그 현상을 지칭하는 단어로써 사용되곤 합니다. 저는 그 중 익숙한 공간이 낯설게 느껴지는 ‘자메뷰’적 순간을 포착해 기록합니다. 그 순간은 수 없이 지나다녔던 공간에 번진 그림자이기도 하고, 익숙하게 봐왔던 사물들이 본래와는 별개의 느낌을 가지는 순간이기도 하며 환경의 변화로 인해 정말 공간 자체가 바뀐 풍경이기도 하죠. 저는 그 순간의 그것들을 직접 담아 내기 위해 사생을 하기도 하고, 있는 그대로도 간직하기 위해 사진을 찍기도 하며 그 기록들을 곱씹으며 재 기록하기도 합니다. 그런 과정들을 통해 그려내는 것들은 분명 익숙한 것들이기 때문에, 우리에게서 스쳐 지나갔지만 관심있게 본적 없던 기억들과 연결되는 매개체로 작용되길 희망합니다. 저는 낯설게 느껴지는 ‘자메뷰’를 포착해 표현하지만, 여러분은 익숙한 것 (다만 자세히 관찰하지 않고 그냥 지나쳐왔던 것) 이라고 여겨지는 ‘데자뷰’를 느끼고 여러분의 기억 속 익숙한 공간과 소통하길 바라는 것은 어쩌면 아이러니한 바램일지도 모릅니다.

Hello. :-) I'm Seol Hak-young who draws pictures.

I usually work with crayons, which we commonly call oil pastels. We encounter many things in our lives. Maybe it's a person, or a landscape or an object. As we face them, we sometimes feel familiar even though we've never seen them before, but sometimes even though we've seen them dozens or hundreds of times, we've never seen them before. As you may know, 'Deja Vu' and 'Jamais Vu' are used as words to refer to the phenomenon. I capture and record the 'Jamais Vu' moment that feels unfamiliar to the familiar space. It's a shadow that's spread through the space that's passed by countless times, and it's a moment when things that you've seen are different from what they were originally, and it's a scene where the space itself has changed due to changes in the environment. I try to capture them in person, take pictures to keep them as they are, and re-record the records. Because what we're drawing through these processes is obviously familiar, we hope that it will serve as a medium that connects memories that we've passed through, but have never seen before with interest. I capture and express a strange "Jamais Vu," but it may be ironic that you feel a "Deja Vu" that is considered familiar (but just passed without careful observation) and want to communicate with the familiar space in your memory.
